Arkansas State University named Justin Ingram head volleyball coach Friday afternoon at the Convocation Center. Ingram has served the last eight years as a assistant coach at Kansas State and now becomes the sixth volleyball coach in the ASU program history.
“He’s perfect,” ASU Director of Athletics Dean Lee said while introducing his new coach. “(Justin) will challenge us, he’s very competitive, he will discipline us, and he knows what it takes to help move us forward.”
Prior to joining the Kansas State staff, Ingram coached as an assistant for two years at the University of Houston. During the last 10 years, Ingram’s teams have made nine appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
This will be Ingram’s first head coaching opportunity at the college level. “I’m more than confident that it’s going to be great,” Ingram said. “There will be a learning curve, but I am hoping it’s a short one. Mostly it’s going to be about the players and how we can come together and have a great relationship and learn as fast as we can together.”
Ingram said he would retain current ASU assistant Julie Williams on his staff at ASU.
Former ASU coach Craig Cummings resigned from the position earlier this year after 13 seasons and 244 victories at the program. Arkansas State finished last season with a mark of 20-12 and 10-8 in Sun Belt Conference play.
The Red Wolves volleyball squad will return several players next season including standout sophomore-to-be Cayla Fielder.
